China Reaches Career Milestone in Women's Lacrosse 11-9 Setback at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Albright women's lacrosse team rallied in the fourth quarter but were unable to outlast Ursinus on the road as they were defeated 11-9 on Saturday.
 
Senior Lauren China reached the 100 career goals milestone with an unassisted goal in the second quarter. China became the seventh player in program history to reach the milestone.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 overall while the Bears advance to 1-1.
 
Senior Maddie Taylor matched a career-high four goals to lead Albright's offense. China and Junior Abigail Hai tallied two points apiece while sophomore Katelyn Patrick grabbed a game-high six ground balls.
 
The Bears opened up the scoring less than a minute into the first quarter with a free position goal. Albright continued to apply pressure to the Bears' back line but were unable to convert in the first quarter as Ursinus held onto the 1-0 lead.
 
Ursinus notched back-to-back goals in the second stanza to take a three-goal lead over Albright. Hai finally got the Lions on the board at the 7:55-mark off a feed from China. The Bears tallied another at the 4:51-mark to stay in front 4-1. The Lions began to find their footing as they closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals from China and two from Taylor to tie the game at four entering the break.
 
The Bears controlled the pace in the third quarter, tallying three-straight goals in the opening two minutes of action to take a 7-4 lead. Ursinus netted one more in the third at the 6:49-mark to grasp an 8-4 lead entering the final stanza.
 
Hai kept the Lions in reach with a goal at the 13:38-mark in the fourth to cut their deficit to 8-5. The Bears responded with back-to-back goals within 30 seconds of each other to extend their lead to five. Senior Ashleigh Tortorice found the back of the net at the 12:05-mark off a feed from sophomore Kyra Lycett to spark a four-goal run for the Lions. Junior Chloe Fornoff followed with an unassisted goal at the 7:32-mark. Taylor converted an 8-meter shot just 30 seconds later to cut Albright's deficit to 10-8. Taylor notched one more at the 3:29-mark to get the Lions within one. Ursinus solidified their 11-9 victory with a free-position goal to claim the non-conference win.
 
Albright held a 34-22 shot advantage and won the battle for ground balls 27-12. The Lions also forced the Bears into 23 turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Sedor receives the loss for Albright with four saves in 60 minutes of action. Alexa Machado earns the win for Ursinus with 15 saves in the full amount of action.
 
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, March 5th at 12 p.m. as they travel to Elizabethtown for non-conference action.
