FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Albright baseball team dropped two contests in a doubleheader against Western Connecticut State (WestConn) on day two of their Spring Break trip on Monday.

With the pair of losses, the Lions drop to 0-10 overall. Meanwhile, the Colonials improves to 3-2 overall.

GAME ONE
The Lions opened the doubleheader with a 10-6 setback to the Colonials. Both teams tallied a run in the first inning. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first following three hits. Billy Bean singled to lead off and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Nick Sklenarik singled to get on base and move Bean to third. Dylan Harlos then singled and earned an RBI as Bean circled home. WestConn took the lead in the top of the third scoring two runs on two hits to claim a 3-1 advantage. The Colonials continued to build on their lead in the top of the fourth, adding three runs on two hits to take a 6-1 lead. However, the Lions continued to battle in the bottom half of the fourth. Will Algard singled to lead off and advanced to second as Eddie Meredith reached first on an error. Roman Berretta singled and loaded up the bases. Bean smashed a double and earned three RBI as Berretta, Meredith, and Algard all scored to cut the Lions deficit to 6-4.

The Colonials added two more runs in the top of the sixth behind three hits to extend their lead to 8-4. WestConn then took a six-run lead in the top of the seventh with their final two runs on three hits. Albright continued to battle in the final inning as Bean singled to lead off. Bean moved to second as Chris Thomas got on base following a walk. Harlos also walked and loaded the bases for the Lions once again. Bean came home as Algard walked and Thomas scored on a wild pitch to cut the Lions deficit to 10-6. This would be the final runs for the Lions, however, as the Colonials claimed the game one victory.

Dante Mack (0-1) receives the loss for the Lions in his collegiate debut behind 3.1 innings pitched. Connor Gannon (1-0) earns the win for the Colonials behind 6.0 innings pitched.

GAME TWO
Albright suffered a 4-2 loss in game two. WestConn opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second. The Colonials notched three runs on four hits to take a 3-0 lead. Albright got on the board in the top of the third as Jack Gilmer walked to lead off. Gilmer then advanced to third following two ground outs. Bean walked to get on base, and Gilmer found home following a wild pitch to cut the Lions deficit to 3-1.

The Colonials added an unearned run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth to grasp a 4-1 advantage. WestConn managed to load the bases and earned the opportunity to take a big lead, but the Lions defense stood tall. Albright added one final run in the top of the seventh as Berretta walked to get on base. Berretta advanced to second following a walk from Gilmer and eventually found home as Trey Smith singled to earn the RBI. That would be the Lions final opportunity to close the gap in the score, however, as the Colonials claimed the 4-2 win.
