Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Immaculata, 12-8

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team picked up a 12-8 win on the road at Immaculata in non-conference action on Wednesday.
 
With the win, the Lions advance to 4-3 overall. Meanwhile, the Mighty Macs fall to 1-4.
 
Senior Cole Genneken led Albright with a game-high six points behind two goals and four assists. First-year Jack Burke posted four points on four goals and grabbed five ground balls. Sophomore Jon Alvarez added three points behind two goals and one assist while seniors Alex McKendry and Shane Early added two points apiece.
 
Alvarez got the Lions on the board in their first possession of the game off a feed from McKendry. Genneken followed with an unassisted goal at the 11:23-mark to give Albright the two-goal advantage. Burke capped off the Lions opening run with an unassisted goal at the 8:08-mark to take a 3-0 lead. Immaculata got on the board at the 6:45-mark with the last score of the quarter to cut their deficit to two.
 
Albright silenced Immaculata in the second stanza, posting three unanswered goals. Burke notched back-to-back scores for the Lions off two feeds from Genneken. Burke added a man-down goal assisted by junior Jay Shifflet in the final seconds to close out the half and grasp a 6-1 lead for Albright.
 
The Mighty Macs found their footing in the third quarter as they went on a 4-1 run to cut their deficit to just two-goals at the 5:36-mark. Early snapped the run off a feed from Genneken to put Albright ahead 8-5. Immaculata closed out the third with a goal at the 1:44-mark to keep within reach at 8-6 entering the final stanza.
 
Immaculata kept their momentum and found the back of the net just 44 seconds into the fourth quarter to get within one. McKendry added a goal at the 12:43-mark to put the Lions lead at 9-7, but the Mighty Macs answered less than a minute later to stay within one. Albright was able to hold off Immaculata for the final ten minutes as they added three more goals to their lead to claim the 12-8 victory.
 
Albright held a 52-39 shot advantage over Immaculata and won the battle for ground balls 51-40. The Lions also forced the Mighty Macs into 20 turnovers. However, Immaculata won the faceoff battle 13-9. First-year goalkeeper Ethan Hendershot earns his second consecutive win for Albright with 12 saves in the full amount of action. Cole Metzger receives the loss for Immaculata despite completing 17 saves in 60 minutes of action.
 
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, March 26th as they close out non-conference action against Marywood at Shirk Stadium at 1 p.m.
