READING, Pa. – The Albright men's tennis team was unable to overcome Penn State Berks as they fell 5-4 on Tuesday at the Albright Tennis Courts.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 3-4 overall. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions improve to 1-1.
Penn State Berks claimed two doubles matched to grasp the early 2-1 lead. At the first doubles spot, Penn State Berks' David Nigiri and Shane Gleason took an 8-5 victory from
Arpit Gainder and
Kobe Serpa. The Lions answered in the second doubles spot as
Kade Friedrich and
Samuel Zapata Hernandez claimed an 8-6 win over Anthony Chan and Cole Epting. The Nittany Lions grasped the third doubles match as Jack Filip and Jonathan Morello notched an 8-6 win over
Clay Lewandowski and
Mike Vogt.
Gainder opened the singles match at the No. 1 spot with a 5-3, 6-4 win over Gleason to tie the match at two. Chan put the Nittany Lions in front with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Serpa in the No. 2 spot. Penn State Berks earned the next two singles wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots by opponent retirement. Lewandowski earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Daniel Popovici in the No. 5 spot and Vogt rounded out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Michael Hill in the No. 6 spot.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday as they host Saint Elizabeth at 4 p.m.
