Franklin & Marshall Takes Down Baseball, 7-1

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team was outlasted 7-1 by Franklin & Marshall on a rainy afternoon at Kelchner Field on Saturday. Despite game one of the doubleheader being cancelled due to weather and field conditions, the two teams were able to get one nine inning game in after a number of rain delays.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-16 overall. Meanwhile, the Diplomats improve to 8-8 overall.

Franklin & Marshall opened up the scoring in the top of the first with one run behind one hit to take the early lead. It was a defensive battle throughout the second, third, and fourth innings as neither team was able to tally a run. The Diplomats finally broke through in the top of the fifth with one run on two hits to take a 2-0 lead.

Franklin & Marshall began to take control over the game in the top of the sixth. The Diplomats totaled four hits and added four runs to their lead to hold a commanding 6-0 lead. Albright finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Nick Sklenarik singled up the middle to lead off. Dylan Harlos followed with a double to bring Sklenarik home and cut the Lions deficit to 6-1. The Diplomats solidified their win in the top of the eighth, however, with one final run behind two hits to claim the 7-1 victory as the Lions were unable to tally another run.

Dan Stofko (1-3) receives the loss for Albright behind 6.0 innings pitched, 30 batters faced, and seven strikeouts. Meanwhile, Greg Nieskens (3-1) earns the win for the Franklin & Marshall behind 6.0 innings pitched, nine strikeouts, and 24 batters faced.
