Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past St. Joseph's (LI), 17-3

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Albright women's lacrosse team claimed a dominant 17-3 non-conference victory on the road at St. Joseph's (LI) on Saturday.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-6 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles drop to 0-4 overall.
 
Senior Lauren China (two goals, three assists) and junior Chloe Fornoff (one goal, four assists) led the Lions offense with five points apiece. Sophomore Katelyn Patrick notched a hat trick with three goals on five shots. Junior Abigail Hai added four points behind two goals and two assists.
 
Hai got the Lions rolling early with a goal just over three minutes into action off a feed from Fornoff. Senior Abbie Moist converted a woman-up opportunity with an assist from China at the 11:12-mark. China then notched her first goal of the game just 17 seconds later to give the Lions a quick three-goal advantage. St. Joseph's got on the board and closed out the opening frame with a goal at the 5:36-mark to bring the score to 3-1 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
 
Both teams struggled to score in the opening minutes of the second stanza. The Golden Eagles cut their deficit to one at the 6:39-mark with a free-position goal. Albright answered with two quick goals from Moist and Hai to put them ahead 5-2 with 5:34 remaining in the first half. Senior Maddie Taylor found the back of the net at the 3:11-mark with a woman-up opportunity and a feed from Fornoff. Taylor then followed with a woman-down goal off an assist from classmate Sydney Plunket to give the Lions a five-goal advantage. China tallied a second woman-down goal off a free-position shot to give the Lions an 8-2 lead entering the break.
 
Albright kept their foot on the gas coming out of the half as sophomore Kyra Lycett posted a third-straight woman-down goal for the Lions off a free-position shot. Albright was then awarded an extra-woman opportunity following a St. Joseph's yellow card to which they converted two woman-up goals from senior Ashleigh Tortorice and Fornoff, extending their lead to 11-2 at the 6:10-mark. Patrick capped off the run with an unassisted score at the 4:08-mark to give the Lions a ten-goal advantage. The Golden Eagles finally snapped the run and cut their deficit back to single digits at 12-3 entering the final stanza.
 
The Lions shut down the Golden Eagles in the fourth quarter posting three-straight goals in the first five minutes of the frame to claim a commanding 15-3 lead. Senior Lenox Pinczehelyi notched the final two goals for Albright behind assists from first-year Sarah Chernis and Fornoff to solidify their 17-3 win on the road.
 
Albright held a dominant 39-20 shot advantage over St. Joseph's and forced the Golden Eagles into 20 turnovers. The Lions also won the battle for ground balls 20-16. First-year goalkeeper Caelainn Morrison earns the win for the Lions with six saves in 45 minutes of action. Jillian Hummel receives the loss for the Golden Eagles despite completing 13 saves in 45 minutes of action.
 
The Lions will open up MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Messiah.
