Patrick, China Lead Women's Lacrosse to 17-10 Road Victory at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Albright women's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the 2022 season with a strong 17-10 win at Elizabethtown on Saturday.

With the win, the Lions improve to 1-2 overall, meanwhile the Blue Jays fall to 1-3 overall.

Sophomore Katelyn Patrick led Albright with a career-high six goals on seven shots. Senior Lauren China followed with four goals and one assist for five points, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Elizabethtown had the opening goal of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. China responded less than a minute later with an unassisted goal to get Albright on the board at the 11:34-mark. The Lions continued to control the pace in the opening frame with a six-goal run, two from China, 2 from junior Chloe Fornoff and one from junior Morgan Kopcik giving the Lions a 6-1 advantage. The Blue Jays snapped the run with back-to-back goals, but Patrick added to the Lions lead with a free-position goal to make their lead 7-3 entering the second quarter.

Elizabethtown scored two goals to open the second stanza and held the Lions scoreless until a Patrick found the back of the net once again at the 6:47-mark. Albright kept their foot on the gas to close out the second quarter with four unanswered goals from Patrick, China, and senior Lexi Pitkevits, extending their lead to 11-5 at the break.

The Blue Jays came out of the half with a goal to cut their deficit to five at the 12:17-mark. Senior Abbie Moist got on the board for Albright and jumpstarted and capped a three-goal run for the Lions behind a feed from first-year Sarah Chernis to increase their lead to 14-6 entering the fourth quarter.

Patrick gave Albright their largest lead at nine with the first goal in the final stanza. Elizabethtown fought back in the fourth however, going on a 4-1 run to cut their deficit to 16-10 at the 3:54-mark. It would not be enough, however, as Patrick found the back of the net once more in the final minute of action to solidify the Lions 17-10 non-conference victory.

Albright held a 31-23 shot advantage over Elizabethtown. The battle for ground balls was even at 20 each. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Sedor earns the win for the Lions after starting and completing two saves in 30 minutes of action. Alayna Trynosky receives the loss for the Blue Jays despite completing nine saves in the full amount of action.

Albright will return to action on Saturday March 12th at 1 p.m. as they open up their home schedule at Shirk Stadium against Stevens.
