Game Two Comeback Falls Short, Baseball Drops a Pair to Stevenson

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team dropped a pair of MAC Commonwealth contests to Stevenson at Kelchner Field on Sunday.
 
With the losses, the Lions fall to 0-6 in conference and 1-24 overall. Meanwhile, the Mustangs improve to 3-2 in conference and 8-19-1 overall.
 
GAME ONE
Albright was shut out 10-0 by Stevenson in game one of the doubleheader. The two teams remained scoreless throughout the opening two frames. The Mustangs got on the board in the top of the third with three runs on one hit and one error. Stevenson followed with another big offensive inning in the top of the fourth, extending their lead to seven with four runs behind three hits. The Mustangs closed out their scoring in the top of the seventh with three runs on two hits and two errors. Stevenson kept the Lions scoreless throughout nine innings to solidify the dominant 10-0 win in game one.
 
Hayden Paukstis (0-2) receives the loss on the pitching mound for the Lions in game one behind 4.2 innings pitched and 27 batter. Matt Reich (3-1) only allowed one hit and threw 12 strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched to earn the win for Stevenson.
 
GAME TWO
Albright rallied in game two but ultimately fell 6-4 to Stevenson to conclude the MAC Commonwealth series. The Mustangs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Stevenson built on their lead in the top of the third with two runs behind two hits to pull ahead 3-0. The Mustangs then claimed a commanding six-run lead in the fourth with three runs on two hits.
 
The Lions got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth as Nick Barton got on base on a fielder's choice. Eddie Meredith then doubled to send Barton home and cut the Lions deficit to 6-1. Albright came to life in the bottom of the sixth as Jack Gilmer walked to lead off. Trey Smith then followed with a walk as Gilmer moved to second. Billy Bean then smashed one out of the park for his first collegiate home run as the Lions got within two runs at 6-4. The Lions kept the Mustangs scoreless throughout the remaining three frames, but they were unable to score again as Stevenson held onto the 6-4 victory.
 
Connor Trower (0-3) receives the loss on the pitching mound for the Lions behind 2.1 innings pitched and 13 batters faced. Brady Power (1-1) earns the win for Stevenson behind 5.0 innings pitched and five strikeouts.
 
Albright will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Penn State Berks for non-conference action at 3:30 p.m.
