Baseball Defeated at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright baseball team was downed 19-5 at Widener in MAC Commonwealth action on Tuesday.
 
With the loss, the Lions drop to 0-9 in conference and 1-29 overall. Meanwhile, the Pride improve to 6-3 in conference and 17-14 overall.
 
Albright got off to a good start in the top of the first as Nick Sklenarik singled to right field to lead off. Eddie Meredith then got on base on a fielder's choice and was brought home behind a Dylan Harlos homer to put the Lions up 2-0. Widener responded in the bottom of the opening frame with six runs behind four hits to pull ahead 6-2. The Pride then added four runs to their lead in the bottom of the second to claim a commanding 10-2 lead.
 
The Lions answered in the top half of the third as Meredith led off with a single to right field. Reece Adam got on base with a single and both runners advanced on a balk. Meredith then found home as both him and Adam advanced on a passed ball. Will Algard brought Adam home with a single to center field to cut the Lions deficit to 10-4. The Pride continued to dominate, however, tallying eight unanswered runs throughout the third and fourth innings to extend their lead to 18-4. Widener capped off their scoring in the bottom of the sixth with one final run. The Lions added one more run in the ninth, but the Pride ultimately claimed the dominant 19-5 victory to open the season series.
 
Jeremy Brubaker (0-6) receives the loss on the pitching mound for the Lions behind 1.0 innings pitched and 12 batters faced. Sklenarik and Adam led Albright with two hits apiece.
 
The Lions will return to Kelchner Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m. to host Widener in game two of their season series.
