READING, Pa. – The Albright softball team dropped a pair of MAC Commonwealth contests to Hood at he Albright College Softball Field on Saturday.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-10 in conference and 3-23 overall. Meanwhile, the Blazers improve to 6-8 in conference and 16-17-1 overall.
GAME ONE
Albright was downed 9-1 by Hood in game one. The Lions opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first as
Allison Melahn singled to lead off. Melahn then moved to second on a ground out and stole third. Melahn then scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kaitlyn Chell to give Albright the 1-0 lead. Hood responded in the top of the second, posting five hits and scoring two runs to pull ahead 2-1. The Blazers biggest offensive inning came in the top of the fourth as they notched five runs on six hits to claim a 7-1 lead. Hood capped off their scoring in the fifth with two runs on two hits and one error to solidify their 9-1 victory.
Laura Costello (2-9) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright behind 3.2 innings pitched and 22 batters faced. Melahn had the lone hit and run for the Lions in game one.
GAME TWO
Hood earned the conference sweep over Albright with a 2-0 win in game two. The Blazers claimed an early lead in the top of the first with one run on two hits. Hood extended their lead to two in the third with one run on three hits. From there it was a battle of defenses as neither team was able to score. The Lions best chance at scoring came in the fifth as they registered three hits and loaded the bases, but Hood kept them off the board and solidified their 2-0 victory in game two.
Melahn (1-4) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright behind 4.2 innings pitched, 22 batters faced, and four strikeouts. Melahn also led the Lions offence with three hits on three at bats.
Albright will return to action on Monday at 3 p.m. as they host Immaculata for a non-conference doubleheader
