Baseball Falls to Eastern in Final Home Game of the Season

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team fell 8-1 in a MAC Commonwealth matchup with Eastern in their final home game of the season at Kelchner Field on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-13 in conference and 1-33 overall. Meanwhile, the Eagles improve to 6-9 in conference and 13-24 overall.
 
The Eagles opened up their scoring in the top of the second with one run and added a second run in the third to take the early lead. The Eagles best offensive inning came in the fourth as they put together four hits for two runs and extended their lead to 4-0. Eastern capped off their run in the fifth with two more scores on two hits to grasp a 6-0 lead.
 
Albright finally got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth as Billy Bean led off with his second double down the left field line of the game. Bean then moved to third on a ground out and advanced home on a second ground out as Will Algard tallied the RBI. However, Eastern solidified their win in the top of the ninth with a final fun behind two hits to grasp an 8-1 victory to open up the series.
 
Both teams played well defensively as neither team committed an error. Eastern posted 12 hits on the afternoon compared to Albright's six. Bean and Chris Thomas led the Lion's offense with two hits on four at bats each. Jeremy Brubaker (0-7) receives the loss for Albright behind 3.0 innings pitched and 16 batters faced. Sean Cottrell (2-5) earns the win for Eastern behind 7.0 innings pitched, seven strikeouts, and 28 batters faced.
 
The Lions will travel to Eastern on Friday at 3:30 p.m. to conclude the MAC Commonwealth series.
