YORK, Pa. – The Albright baseball team dropped their final MAC Commonwealth doubleheader of the season at York on Saturday.
With the losses, the Lions conclude the season 0-16 in conference and 1-36 overall. Meanwhile, the Spartans finish the regular season 11-5 in conference and 21-16 overall to enter postseason action.
GAME ONE
York claimed a 13-3 victory over Albright in game one of the MAC Commonwealth series. The Spartans jumpstarted their scoring with four runs behind five hits in the bottom of the first to grasp the early lead. York continued their momentum in the bottom of the second with three runs on three hits, claiming a 7-0 advantage. Albright got on the board in the top of the third as
Nick Sklenarik,
Chris Thomas, and
Josh Halye loaded the bases.
Ethan Karel was then hit by a pitch as Sklenarik came home. York didn't hang their heads for long as they homered in the bottom half of the third. The Spartans then extended their lead to 13-1 in the seventh with five runs on four hits. The Lions notched two final runs in the eighth as
Jack Gilmer,
Roman Berretta, and Sklenarik all walked to get on base. Meredith then hit a sacrifice fly out to send home Gilmer and Thomas singled to send Berretta home. However, York solidified the 13-3 win in game one.
Dan Stofko (1-8) receives the loss on the pitching mound for the Lions in game one behind 6.1 innings pitched, 39 batters faced, and four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
York completed the series sweep over Albright with a 15-3 win in game two. York grasped a commanding 9-0 lead behind two runs in the first and a big seven runs in the third. Albright got on the board in the top of the fourth behind a
Billy Bean homer. The Spartans answered in the bottom half of the fourth with five runs behind four hits to take a commanding 14-1 lead. The Lions tallied two runs in the top of the seventh as Thomas and Karel singled to get on base. Gilmer then singled to bring both Thomas and Karel home, bringing the score to 14-3. York capped off their scoring in the bottom of the eighth with one final run to solidify their 15-3 victory.
