OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Albright softball team fell twice in their 2022 season finale at Stevenson on Saturday.
The Lions 2-14 in conference and 4-30 overall. Meanwhile, the Mustangs wrap up the regular season 9-7 in conference and 19-14 overall.
GAME ONE
Stevenson earned a 6-4 comeback win over Albright in game one to open the MAC Commonwealth series. Albright opened up the scoring in the top of the first as
Jadelyn Van Winkle singled through the left side to get on base for the Lions.
Kaitlyn Chell then singled up the middle while
Veronica Heckman singled to send Van Winkle open and give Albright a 1-0 lead. Stevenson got on the board in the bottom of the third with one run behind two hits to tie the game at one. The Lions responded in the top of the fourth with their best offensive inning as Chell walked and Heckman singled to get on base.
Laura Costello then singled and brought home Chell to put Albright back in front.
Brooke Franklin then singled to bring home Heckman and Costello as the Lions held onto a 4-1 advantage.
Stevenson controlled the game from that point on, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to get within one. Albright held onto their lead through the top of the seventh, but Stevenson tied it up with one run on two hits in the bottom half of the seventh to send game one into extra frames. Stevenson then claimed the win in the bottom half of the ninth with a walk off home run to add two runs and grasp a 6-4 victory.
Costello (2-12) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright behind 8.1 innings pitched, 42 batters faced, and three strikeouts.
Allison Melahn and Heckman both went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Lions offense.
GAME TWO
Stevenson completed the series sweep over Albright with a hard-fought 2-0 victory in game two. The Lions struggled offensively in game two as they were only able to get off one single hit from Chell in the top of the fourth. The Mustangs scored their two runs in the bottom half of the fourth behind three hits. Stevenson was able to keep Albright off the board throughout the remainder of game two to grasp the 2-0 victory.
Melahn (2-6) receives the loss on the pitching mound for Albright in game two behind 6.0 innings pitched and 27 batters faced.
