READING, Pa. – The Albright softball team split a non-conference series against Lycoming at the Albright Softball Field on Tuesday.
The Lions move to 2-16 overall while the Warriors move to 5-13 overall.
GAME ONE
Albright earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lycoming in game one. The Lions got on the board early in the bottom of the first as
Allison Melahn singled to lead off. Melahn then stole both second and third.
Kathryn Baptiste singled to earn the RBI as Melahn circled home and have Albright the early 1-0 lead. Lycoming got on the board in the top of the third as they posted one run on one hit and two errors to tie the game at one.
The Lions finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth. Melahn singled once again to get on base and then stole second. Baptiste then singled to move Melahn to third. Melahn then reached home on a ground out to put the Lions in front 2-1. Albright kept Lycoming off the board for the final two innings as they claimed the 2-1 victory in game one.
GAME TWO
Lycoming dominated in game two with a 6-0 victory over Albright. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead behind four hits in the top of the first. Lycoming added one run in the top of the third and followed with two more in the fourth to extend their lead to six. Unfortunately for the Lions they were unable to overcome their deficit and suffered the 6-0 non-conference loss to split the series with Lycoming.
Melahn (1-1) earned the win in game one behind a full seven innings pitched, six strikeouts, and 33 batters faced.
Laura Costello (1-2) received the loss in game two after 4.0 innings pitched and 24 batters faced.
The Lions will return to action Thursday as they travel to Penn State Schulkill for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
