Reading, PA - In an even matchup between two teams playing their first game of the season, the Albright Lions pulled out the victory over the Bryn Athyn Lions in a 1-0 victory.
The two teams used the first half to warm up and get a feeling for what the other team was doing. The Lions had a slight 3-2 shot advantage heading into the half.
Things opened up in the second half, especially for Albrgight. The home team would out shoot Bryn Athyn by a 6-3 margin. The difference in the match came in the 55th minute, as
Alexis Baez made a beautiful pass to
Alyssa DeVita, who then made a brilliant cross to
Emily Serpico, who put it in the back of the net.
Things got chippy towards the end of the match, as the Lions from Bryn Athyn started getting physical the more desperate they got. Eventually Allyson Paul was given an outright red card, giving Albright a 11-10 women advantage for the last nine minute.
The Albright Lions had five players register a shot on goal, lead by Alyssa Phillips who had three. Albright used two goalies, as Levan McKenna played the first half, making one save.
Alexis Solt played the second half, and also made one save.
Up Next - The Lions will play two games this weekend at the Stockton Tournament. Starting with a 2:30pm match on Saturday, September 3rd against the host Stockton University. they will then play again on Sunday at 2pm against Kean University.
