Reading, PA - The Albright Tennis teams played against PSU Berks Friday afternoon, and the women won 8-1 in their first match of the season, while the men fell 3-6, to bring their record to 1-1 on the season.
On the women's side, the Lions won two of the three matches, with
Alex Pancu and
Michelle Timothy winning 8-0, and
Marisa Cocca and
Lauren China also winning 8-0.
Megan Colaneri and
Jacqualine Manikas fell 5-8.
The Lions would sweep all six singles matches with the following scores:
Alex Pancu - 6-1, 6-0
Michelle Timothy - 6-1, 6-0
Alizabeth Zarnofski - 6-3, 6-1
Libby Harford - 6-2, 6-2,
Macie Littleton - 6-1, 6-0
Marisa Cocca - 6-0, 6-0
On the men's side, four of the nine matches came down to a tiebreaker, with each team winning two of them. In doubles,
Arpit Gainder and
Gavin Buckley won their match 8-5, while
Kobe Serpa and
Clay Lewandowski fell 8-1.
Mike Vogt and
Hugh Crawford went to a tiebreaker in their match, which they fell in 7-2, and the match overall 8-7.
In singles, the Lions won two matches, both via a third tie-breaking set.
Gavin Buckley lost the first set 4-6, but would comeback and win the second and third sets 6-1 and 10-3.
Hugh Crawford also lost his first set, by a score of 3-6, but he also came back and won the next two sets bys cores of 6-1 and 10-5. Gainder lost his match 3-6, 3-6, Serpa lost his 2-6, 2-6, Lewandowski fell 3-6, 4-6, and
Mike Vogt fell 7-6, 3-6, 7-10
Up Next - Both teams will play again tomorrow, Saturday, September 24th against Muhlenberg College. Those matches will start at 11am at the Albright Tennis Courts.
