READING, Pa. - On a traditional Pennsylvania January day, the Albright College men's basketball team (7-11, 4-6 MAC Commonwealth) was in action at home and picked up a huge conference win over Lebanon Valley (5-13, 3-6 MAC Commonwealth) by a final score of, 85-76. The win for Albright earns the Lions the season sweep over Lebanon Valley.
Two quick three pointers, one from Robert Mangum and one from Jeremiah Stanton got things rolling for the Lions in the opening minutes of the game. After LVC battled back the game was back and forth featuring both teams playing at a high pace throughout the first half.
Albright's offense was on fire all half long building their lead back up to 22-11 midway through the first quarter, the Lions largest lead of the half.
At the break Albright led by eight, 44-36 courtesy of strong shooting from all areas of the floor. As a team Albright shot 55.2% from the floor and 40% from three point range.
Zyon Grant paced the Lion scorers through the first half with 12 points. Jordan Guerrero had it going in the first half going 3-5 from three point range for nine points. Stanton was perfect from the field in the first half going 4-4 from the floor including three threes made.
It was all Albright in the early goings of the second half going on a quick 7-0 spurt to open the half. A Grant three pointer put the Lions up by 21 with 15 minutes left to play.
Lebanon Valley would not go down without a fight as the Dutchmen battled all the way back trailing by five with four minutes left.
However the Lions remained cool and collected and were able to withstand the comeback to ultimately win the game by a final score of, 85-76.
It was a career high night for Grant who scored 21 points good for a new career high for the Senior guard. Grant also added five rebounds, three of which were offensive.
It was a career night for Stanton who set career highs in points (20), three's made (4) and free throws made (6) for the first year guard.
Guerrero was fantastic off the bench for Albright tonight going for 18 points (4-7 3PT), 11 rebounds and four steals. Eric Chamberlain did a little bit of everything tonight scoring 13 points, grabbing six rebounds, dishing out five assists and recording three steals.
Head coach, Rick Ferry now has 298 career wins at the helm of Albright men's basketball. Ferry will look to become the second coach in school history to reach the 300 win threshold.
