Men’s Soccer Wins Exhilarating Game on Senior Night over Eastern 4-3

The Albright men’s soccer team saved their most exciting game for the last game of the year. Martin Ramsay’s second goal of the game in the 85th minute propelled the Lions to victory on Senior Night.

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team (9-6-3, 1-5-1 MAC Commonwealth) saved their most exciting game of the season for the last game of the year. Martin Ramsay's second goal of the game in the 85th minute proved to be the game winner giving the Lions a 4-3 victory over Eastern (4-8-4, 1-5-1).

Prior to tonight's game the Albright men's soccer program took the time to honor their four graduating seniors. The graduating seniors are #8 Luigi Costigliola, #12 Austin Gross, #15 John Villano and #20 Stephan Boyle.

The Lions found themselves in front after 45 minutes of play taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Martin Ramsay scored his first goal of the game in the 13th minute putting Albright on top 1-0. Ramsay received an outlet pass from goalkeeper Cooper Walters and calmly chipped the Eastern netminder for the goal. Walters was credited with an assist on the play from his goalkeeping position.

Just before halftime, the Lions offense did well to draw a penalty kick looking to double their lead. Luke Fanning stepped up to take the penalty and left the Eastern goalie little chance of making a save depositing the ball into the back of the net.

Eastern scored a goal early in the second half to cut the Albright lead in half making it a 2-1 game in the second half.

Stephan Boyle, playing in his last collegiate game, had an answer for the Lions. Boyle knew exactly where to position himself in the Eastern six-yard box with the ball eventually making its way to Boyle. Boyle knew just what to do with the ball at his feet, placing the ball into the back of the net to extend the Albright lead to 3-1 in the 49th minute of play. For Boyle tonight's goal was the first of his career.

Eastern rallied late in the second half to tie the game at 3-3 scoring two goals less than seven minutes apart.

With just minutes remaining on the clock it looked as if the Lions and Eagles were headed to a 3-3 draw. However, the Lions had other ideas.

In the 85th minute, the Albright offense earned a free kick in a dangerous part of the Eastern defensive third. Luke Fanning played a perfect pass to Ramsay who was trailing behind the play. Ramsay fired a one timer into the back of the net giving Albright the lead for good at 4-3.

Ramsay scored two goals tonight marking his eighth and ninth goals of the year. Ramsay has three multiple goal games this season and finishes the regular season with the second most goals in the MAC Commonwealth.

The Lions fired 11 shots as team tonight led by Ramsay with five. John Villano was active all-night making life tough on the Eastern backline registering two shots in tonight's game.

Myles Mitchell, Costiglola, Boyle and Fanning all tallied one shot for the Lions.
