BALTIMORE, MD. – The Albright women's basketball team (1-1) put together a dominating performance this afternoon on both ends of the floor taking down Goucher College (0-2) 85-49 picking up their first win of the season.
The 85 points scored today are the most in a game for Albright since the 2019 season. In 2019, Albright scored 87 points in a win over Neumann University.
Albright begun the game on a 6-0 run setting the tone for the remainder of the game. One three each by
Mackenzie Dover and
CJ Apistar gave Albright a 6-0 lead propelling the Lions to a 20-15 lead after 10 minutes. Five different Lions scored at least two points in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lions offense kept it going and the defense was there to match the offense. Albright dominated the second quarter outscoring Goucher 25-9 in the frame. The impressive second quarter gave the Lions a 45-24 halftime lead.
Albright held Goucher to 4-14 shooting from the field while the Lions shot 50% from the field in the second.
Gigi Serrano led all Albright scorers in first half with 12 points.
The third quarter played similarly to the second quarter with the Lions shooting the ball way and playing suffocating defense. In the third quarter alone, Albright tallied five steals making life difficult on Goucher. Apistar led with two steals in the frame helping the Lions to a 66-31 advantage.
With the game well out of reach in favor of Albright, the Lions cruised in the fourth quarter to pick up their first win of the season by winning todays game 85-49.
Serrano put together a fantastic game for the Lions marking her best game as a collegiate athlete. Serrano registered a double-double leading all scorers with 14 points on 50% shooting from the floor. Serrano added a game high 13 (10 offensive) rebounds to complete the double-double for the first-year guard.
Orianna Edmond also had a double-double this afternoon in a dominant performance from the sophomore forward. Edmond finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Of the 11 rebounds, four of which were on the offensive glass.
Julia Zakovitch and
Julia Parmelee rounded out the Lions in double figures today. Zakovitch finished with 13 points marking a new career high for Zakovitch. Parmelee scored 11 points on 4-5 shooting from the field including going 2-2 from behind the three-point line.
Apistar filled up the box score this afternoon in all around complete game. Apistar finished with nine points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
