ARLINGTON, Va. – The Albright men's basketball team (2-1) took to the floor this afternoon squaring off against University of Dallas (1-4) in the consolation match of the Pablo Coto Tournament. Albright won today's game by a final score of 82-75.
Albright found themselves down at halftime trailing 42-39. A
Chris Kouemi mid ranger jumper with 24 seconds left in the first half drew the Lions within striking distance of the Crusaders.
Kouemi had a career day for Albright ending the game with a career high 28 points on 12-18 shooting from the floor. Kouemi topped his previous career high by 11 points on Sunday afternoon. Kouemi had 15 points alone at halftime.
The Lions began the second half on a quick 6-0 run to regain the lead at 45-42. With 10 minutes to go in the game Albright took the lead for good on a
Qadir Mitchell jumper giving Albright a 57-54 lead.
Over the last 10 minutes of the game, the Lions were able to keep the Crusaders at arm's length. University of Dallas threatened late in the second half cutting their deficit to four with 1:28 left on the clock with the Lions leading 75-71. Albright went on another 6-0 courtesy of strong free throw shooting down the stretch. Albright went 7-8 from the free throw line to clinch the victory.
Kouemi was dominant all afternoon finishing with the career high in points while adding eight rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks.
Eric Chamberlain poured in 17 points in an all-around strong game for the junior guard. Chamberlain shot 50% from the field while hauling in seven rebounds and recording five steals. Across the two games this weekend, Chamberlain totaled 12 steals.
Albright won the turnover battle and also outperformed University of Dallas on the offensive glass in today's game. The Lions forced 18 turnovers and had 16 offensive rebounds. 10 different Lions scored at least two points today for Albright.
