SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The Albright men's basketball team (6-3) got contributions from up and down the lineup this afternoon to beat Augsburg (Minn.) (3-8) 84-77 wrapping up the Puerto Rico Classic going a perfect 2-0.
Today's win secured a 2-0 record for the Lions in the Puerto Rico Classic. On Monday, (Dec. 18) Albright defeated Birmingham-Southern College (Ala.) 74-72 and wrapped up the Puerto Rico Classic with an 84-77 win over Augsburg (Minn.) this afternoon.
Albright's 6-3 start to being the season is the best mark through nine games since 2017-18 when the Lions started 8-1.
The Lions shot a scorching 58.5% from the field on their way to a seven-point win. Today's game marks this fifth game this season where Albright has scored at least 81 points. Five different Albright scorers ended the game in double figures with
Robert Mangum leading with 15 points.
Albright held a one-point advantage at halftime leading Augsburg 37-36.
Phanique Dupree scored four points in the final minutes of the opening half giving Albright the halftime lead.
Isaac LaPierre and
Eric Chamberlain each scored seven first half points. Additionally, nine different Lions scored at least two points in the opening 20 minutes.
Akhir Keys came alive in the second half keeping Albright in the game. Keys made four three pointers within less than two minutes of game time giving him a quick 12 points. Keys now has two such games this season making at least four threes' in one game.
Neither team led by more than four points in the second half until Albright was able to pull away late. With the score tied at 73-73 with 2:09 left to go, Mangum took over and scored the games next five points stretching Albright's lead to 78-73 with 1:18 to go.
The Lions needed clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to secure the victory and did just that.
Jeremiah Stanton made a pair of clutch free throws with 22 seconds left to put the game away against Augsburg. Albright was solid from the free throw line all day making 14-16 free throws in the contest.
Mangum paced all Albright scorers with 15 going 6-12 from the floor and adding three rebounds and three assists.
Chamberlain poured in 14 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and four steals in another impressive game from the junior guard. With the four steals today, Chamberlain moves into the top five in program history with 147 career steals.
Keys,
Chris Kouemi and
Phanique Dupree rounded out the Lions in double figures. Keys went for 12 points while Kouemi and Dupree went for 10 each.
Albright managed 13 steals that lead to 26 points off turnovers and 18 fast break points.

Albright men's basketball will return home to host the Doubletree Holiday Tournament. The Lions will host Neumann, Cortland State and Stockton during the two-day tournament being played on December 29 and 30. The Lions will open the tournament against Neumann on Friday, December 29 with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m.
