Men’s Basketball Falls to Stockton in Championship Game

The Albright men’s basketball team played well this afternoon but fell to Stockton in the DoubleTree Holiday Tournament Championship game 90-70.

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team (7-4) advanced to todays Championship game but fell to Stockton (8-5) 90-70 in the DoubleTree Championship Game. Stockton was crowned tournament champions going 2-0 across two games played this weekend.

Today's loss marks the first at home for the Lions this season and also snaps a three-game winning streak. Prior to today's game the Lions won five of their last six games.

Robert Mangum and Eric Chamberlain were named to the All-Tournament team for their outstanding efforts across both games this weekend. The dynamic duo led the Lions to today's Championship game scoring at least 11 points each in both games.

DJ Campbell of Stockton was named Tournament MVP, going for 31 points in today's Championship game.

Albright and Stockton played with great pace throughout the game. Hasson Massenburg drilled one first half three pointer putting the Lions on top 17-11 in the early goings of the game. With seven minutes and change left to go in the first half Stockton pulled even with Albright at 23-23 on an Osprey layup.

With 13 seconds left in the half Chamberlain hit a three to pull the Lions within five at 46-41 heading into halftime.

Massenburg led with 12 first half points going 4-7 from the floor. Chamberlain added nine first half points while Jeremiah Stanton and Qadir Mitchell each scored six first half points.

Stockton extended their lead to 17 with 14 minutes left in the game distancing themselves from the Lions. Albright battled to cut their deficit to six with nine minutes to play trailing 69-63. The Ospreys would go on a 21-7 run over the remaining nine minutes of the game to win the DoubleTree Holiday Tournament 90-70.

Chamberlain was one of four Lions to score in double figures this afternoon scoring 14 points. The junior guard one was one rebound shy of a double-double grabbing nine total rebounds. Chamberlain has now scored at least 14 points in every game this season.

Massenburg tied Chamberlain for the team lead in points scored this afternoon with 14 of his own. Massenburg added five rebounds and one assist to his overall stat line.
Chris Kouemi scored in double figures for the 7th time this season scoring 12 points and adding four rebounds. Mangum chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.

Albright will now enter MAC Commonwealth play after the new year. The Lions first MAC Commonwealth game is against Messiah on Wednesday, January 3 at 7 p.m. The game will take place on the campus of Albright College at the Bollman Center.
