MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Albright women's basketball team (3-7) returned to the court this afternoon opening the Montclair State Tournament against Arcadia (10-0). The Knights won today's game over the Lions 81-73.
Today's game was the first for Albright since December 14, a total of 16 days ago.
The Knights came into todays game without a blemish on their record. Albright found themselves down nine after the opening 20 minutes of game action.
Mackenzie Dover paced the Lions in the first half going for eight points.
Orianna Edmond and
CJ Apistar each chipped in with seven first half points. Albright did a good job in the first half of getting to the free throw line shooting nine first half free throws.
Arcadia came out of halftime strong on the defensive end of the court holding the Lions to just eight third quarter points. Albright trailed 57-41 heading into the fourth and final frame.
The Lions offense came alive in the fourth quarter exploding for 32 points alone in the fourth. Albright shot 57.9% from the floor in the fourth including knocking down four threes as a team.
Two Dover free throws cut the Lion deficit to seven 72-65 with a minute and change left. The Lions had a chance to get within three but a missed three pointer from Albright was not meant to be.
The comeback came up short as Arcadia knocked down their free throws down the stretch to take today's game over the Lions 81-73.
Dover went for 22 points on 6-12 shooting. Dover was aggressive all afternoon getting to the free throw line 11 times. The junior guard had another complete game for Albright finishing with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 38 minutes of action.
Edmond finished in double figures with 11 points marking her fourth game in double figures this season. Edmond added four rebounds to her overall stat line this afternoon.
Apistar finished with nine points two assists and three steals.
Gigi Serrano and
Saidat Abbas each scored seven points for Albright. Serrano set a new career high in steals recording four in today's game.
The Albright bench outscored the Arcadia bench 25-7 in today's game while also recording four more points in the paint (36-32) than Arcadia.
