READING, Pa. - The Albright College men's basketball team (9-15, 6-10 MAC Commonwealth) was in action today on their home floor for their regular season finale and fell to visiting Widener (16-7, 10-4 MAC Commonwealth) by a final score of, 78-72.
Eric Chamberlain needed two steals coming into tonight's game to break the single season school record for steals in a season. Chamberlain wasted no time in setting the new record, recording two steals within the first minute of the game. Chamberlain totaled 71 steals on the season surpassing the old mark of 68 set by Dave Singleton during the 2012-23.
Chamberlain also set the new school record for steals per game with 2.96 per contest. With nearly averaging three steals per game Chamberlain surpassed the old mark of 2.34 steals per game.
Chamberlain got the scoring started tonight from the free throw line drawing two quick fouls on Widener.
Albright led by six five minutes into the first half courtesy of a
Chris Kouemi jumper. Widener started to find their rhythm late in the first half leading by 10 with just over 3 minutes to go. The Pride would lead 44-31 after 20 minutes of play.
Starting the second half the Lions were not going to go down without a fight. After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half Albright battled all the way back trailing by just one with four minutes to play.
Jeremiah Stanton's three pointer brough the Lions within one.
Albright had opportunities down the stretch to steal the victory away from Widener but could not find the go ahead basket. The Pride made their free throws down the stretch escaping with the win, 78-72.
Four different Lions finished the game in double figures.
Robert Mangum scored a game high 15 points, 12 for Chamberlain and 10 each for Stanton and
Zyon Grant.
Kouemi was a monster on the glass hauling in a game high 17 rebounds, two rebounds shy of his career high.
