READING, PA. – The Albright women's soccer team (3-2-1) was in action on Saturday afternoon and downed visiting Cedar Crest College (0-3-1) by a final score of 2-0. The Lions are now 2-0 this season at home outscoring their opponents 6-0 in the two games.
With 10 minutes left in the first half, reigning MAC Commonwealth Defender of the Week,
McKenna LeVan made a gorgeous save to keep the game scoreless in the first half.
The Lions earned a free kick with just under six minuets to go in the first half.
Audrey Solt stepped over the ball from 35 yards out looking to take the lead. Solt did just that scoring from the free kick rocketing the ball into the top right corner beating the Cedar Crest Goalie.
Albright took a 1-0 lead into halftime in a back and fourth game. LeVan was credited with two saves in the first half to maintain the 1-0 lead.
In the early going of the second half, LeVan rose to the occasion again saving a Falcon free kick to preserve the shutout and the Lions 1-0 advantage.
Haley Denuto doubled the Albright lead 20 minutes later on a beautiful through ball from Nyla Callhan. Denuto collected the pass and deposited the ball past the oncoming Falcon goalie. For Callahan it was the first assist of her Albright career.
The 2-0 Albright lead would hold until the final whistle giving the Lions back to back home wins.
LeVan finished the game with five saves in another impressive shutout performance.
As a team Albright fired seven shots on goal keeping the Cedar Crest on their heels the entire game.
Mackenzie Sowers led the way with three shots on goal for the Lions.
