DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Albright field hockey team (3-4) went on the road on Friday afternoon and took care of business against Delaware Valley (2-4) in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Freedom crossover battle.
The Lions have now won four straight games over the Aggies.
Todays road win was the first road win for Albright in 2023.
Albright wasted no time putting themselves on top just under two minutes into the game. The goal came off a penalty corner for the Lions where a bouncing ball eventually made its way to Keliah Santiago who buried the shot, scoring for Albright. The goal was Santiago's second of the year.
The Lions doubled their lead in the second quarter courtesy of Morgan Kopcik. After a Delaware Valley foul, Albright was quick to restart sending the ball back into the mix where Kopcik collected the ball after an initial Delaware Valley save and scored to give Albright a 2-0 lead.
The Lions led 2-0 at the break amassing 19 first half shots (10 on goal) and earning six penalty corners. Veronica Heckman faced two shots in the first half and saved both shots keeping the shutout intact.
Albright kept the pressure on in the second half giving Delaware Valley no hope of attempting a comeback. The Lions did now allow a shot in the second half, dominating play on both sides of the field.
Olivia Lorah added one more goal for good measure late in the fourth period. Lorah's goal is her third of the year and capped off a 3-0 victory over the Aggies.
Assisting on the goals today was Chelsea Johnson and Rayven Muller. Johnson was credited with the assist on Santiago's goal and Muller assisted on the Kopcik goal.
As a team the Lions finished with 28 shots and 15 of which were on goal. The shot total and shot total on goal are both season highs for the Lions. Lorah led the way with 10 shots, Chelsea Johnson had six and McKenna Cox had three.
For goalie Heckman, todays shutout win is her second of the season.
