Field Hockey Falls at Home to Stevens

The Albright field hockey team returned home on Saturday afternoon after a six game non conference road trip. The Lions fell today at home to the Ducks 2-0.

READING, Pa. - The Albright field hockey team (3-6) was back at home on Saturday for the first time since September 2 against Stevens (7-2). Stevens got the better of the Lions this afternoon and fell to the Ducks 2-0.Today's game was the first home game for Albright since September 2. Each of the past six games were on the road for the Lions all against non-conference opponents. 

Stevens tallied a goal in the first and second period to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Despite the 2-0 halftime deficit the Lions were not going down without a fight. In the first period Albright earned three penalty corners which resulted in two shots. Lamya Mejias fired both shots for the Lions looking to get on the scoreboard.

Albright came out of halftime with some fire totaling nine third period shots. Over the stretch of two minutes in the third period Albright earned five penalty corners. Despite the numerous chances for the Lions, the Stevens defense stood tall keeping Albright off the board.

Stevens was able to close out the Lions over the final 15 minutes of play escaping with a 2-0 victory.

For the game, Albright recorded 12 total shots and had the advantage in penalty corners with 10 to Stevens six.

Olivia Lorah led the way for the Lions offensively recording four shots. Mejias and Chelsea Johnson each recorded three shots placing a combined three shots on goal. Laurel Gingrich and Shannon Griffin each tallied a shot for Lions.

Veronica Heckman made six saves in a valiant effort in goal for the Lions.

Albright field hockey will head back on the road for a non conference match with Cedar Crest College. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time on Wednesday, October 4.
