YORK, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (5-11, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) went on the road for the first time in 11 days squaring off against York College (Pa.) (11-5, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth). The Lions fell to the host Spartans by a final score of 51-46.
Coming into tonight's game the Lions were on a two-game win streak beating Hood College and Stevenson University last week. With today's loss Albright falls under .500 in the MAC Commonwealth at 2-3.
Albright dropped their first game to York College (Pa.) this evening in almost two years after sweeping the season series last season.
Orianna Edmond had career day for the Lions. The sophomore forward collected her fourth double-double of the season going for a career high 16 rebounds and 11 points. The 16 rebounds mark a new career high for Edmond besting her previous career high of 12 rebounds. Of Edmond's 16 rebounds 11 of them were offensive.
Albright held a 24-21 lead at halftime.
Mackenzie Dover chipped in with seven first half points while
Julia Zakovitch went for four points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
The York defense stepped up in the second half holding Albright to just eight made field goals in the second half.
Heading into the final 10 minutes York was clinging to a five-point lead over Albright 37-32.
The Lions cut the deficit down to three (49-46) with 35 seconds left on a Dover three-pointer. In the end the Spartans were able to hit their free throws down the stretch and escape with a win over the Lions.
Dover finished with a game high 17 points finishing one rebound shy of a double-double ending the game with nine rebounds.
Zakovitch finished with eight points and five rebounds.
CJ Apistar scored four points while adding nine rebounds and four assists. The nine rebounds tie a career high for Apistar.
