READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (7-11, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) played host to the Eastern University Eagles (7-10, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) on Wednesday evening (Jan. 24) on their home floor. The Lions picked up a big 56-46 victory over Eastern on their home floor.
The Lions have now won four of their last five games all coming in MAC Commonwealth play. With tonight's win, Albright moves one spot ahead of Eastern in the MAC Commonwealth standings.
The defense was outstanding once again this evening for the Lions. Albright held Eastern to 46 points, the least amount of points scored against Albright this season. The Eagles shot 29.3% from the field and 14.3% from three.
Mackenzie Dover led the offense for Albright scoring a game high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Dover now has five such games this season scoring 20 or more points. The double-double is Dover's second of the year.
Gigi Serrano collected the second Lions double-double of the night going for 10 points and 13 rebounds. For Serrano it marks her second double-double of the season and the 13 rebounds ties a career high for the first-year guard.
A Serrno layup with under 10 seconds left in the first half gave the Lions a 31-22 lead at halftime. Albright trailed Eastern early in the game but took a 9-7 lead in the first and never relinquished the lead over the entirety of the game.
Albright controlled the game throughout the second half never trailing across the final 20 minutes of the game. The Eagles cut their deficit to four (48-44) late in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as the visitors would come to taking the lead. The Lions closed the game on a 6-2 run to secure the 56-46 home victory.
CJ Apistar needed two points tonight to reach 200 career points. Apistar finished the game with nine points to reach and eclipse the 200-career point mark threshold. Apistar added five assists while only committing one turnover.
Julia Zakovitch chipped in with six points and five rebounds on the night.
Albright turned Eastern's turnovers into 12 points while the Eagles only scored three points off Albright turnovers. Albright did a great job of getting to the free throw line tonight getting Eastern into foul trouble attempting 26 free throws total.
