Women’s Basketball downs Westfield State at Home

The Lions turned in their best offensive performance of the season to get back in the win column before the New Year.

READING, Pa. – The Albright Women's Basketball team (6-3) played their fourth straight at home to conclude their homestand against Westfield State (7-4). Following 40 minutes of play, the Lions played the game at their own pace and maintained complete control for an 89-74 win.

With this win the Lions have now won four of their last five and move to 3-2 at home. 
 
Mackenzie Dover scored a team high 22 points which included her converting on three of her four three-point shots and dishing out a team high six assists. This is the second time the senior has scored 20 or more points in a game this season. 
 
Orianna Edmond recorded a team high in both blocks (two) and rebounds (eight) in a strong defensive performance as the Lions entered halftime with a 45-34 lead.
 
Shakyla Mayo scored 14 points off the bench in 16 minutes of play and picked up a pair of assists with six rebounds. 
 
Orianna Edmond picked up a team high six rebounds and hit half of her shots for nine points and tied Dover for the team lead in assists with three. 
 
The Lions' defense recorded 16 steals with Kenedy Cooper snagging a career high of seven to lead the team. Cooper's seven steals rank fourth most in a game in school history. 
 
44 second half points by the Lions mixed in with a consistent shutdown effort on defense led to a comfortable 89-74 win.

The Lions will open the new year on the road at the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday (1/4) at 1:00 pm.
