READING, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team (9-16, 6-8 MAC Commonwealth) concluded their season at home this afternoon playing host to Widener (21-4, 11-3 MAC Commonwealth). Albright came into today needing a win to keep their playoffs hopes alive but came up just short falling to The Pride 68-62.
The Lions had a chance at the MAC Commonwealth playoffs coming into today. The Lions needed a win combined with an Alvernia and Eastern loss. The Golden Wolves locked up the Commonwealth's No. 4 seed by beating Stevenson 69-54 this afternoon.
Kenedy Cooper and
Mackenzie Dover each scored 16 points in today's game. Cooper shot 50% from the floor in 20 minutes of game action while going a perfect two-for-two from deep. Dover went a perfect seven-for-seven from the free throw line while also recording three rebounds, assists and steals.
Cooper saved her best game for the last game of the season going for a new career high 16 points. The first-year guard scored in double figures four times this season.
Widener jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter in a defensive battle. The Pride would extend their lead to nine points after the first 20 minutes of action leading 30-21.
The Lions did not go down without a fight as they continued to battle in the second half. Albright cut their deficit to seven with two minutes to play in the game. In the end, Widener was too much to overcome for Albright taking today's game on the road.
Orianna Edmond finished with seven points and nine rebounds.
CJ Apistar,
Gigi Serrano and
Julia Zakovitch each finished with six points in the season finale. Apistar added four rebounds and four assists while Serrano and Zakovitch each collected four rebounds.
