Baseball Drops Game 1 To Wilkes; Lions Led Game 2 Before Suspension

The Albright baseball team returned to the field for the first time in a about a weeks’ time squaring off against Wilkes on Sunday afternoon. Wilkes won game 1 8-3 while Albright led game two 1-0 before play was suspended.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Albright baseball team (2-2) went on the road to Wilkes (8-1) University on Sunday afternoon playing for the first time since Monday of this past week. Wilkes took game one over the Lions 8-3 while game two was suspended in the top of the fifth inning with zero outs and Albright on top 1-0.

GAME 1: L, 8-3

Nick Barton continues to swing a hot bat collecting three more hits this afternoon. Barton collected a double and triple this afternoon marking his third and fourth extra base hits to begin the season. Barton added a single late in the game to improve his seasons average to .636 through the first four games of the season.

Brendan Stuhltrager went 2-5 recording a triple marking the first triple of the Stuhltrager's career. Stuhltrager notched a single while tallying a run scored and an RBI.

Wilkes scored eight runs across the first five innings of the game which proved to be the difference in game one.

Starting pitcher Lucas Williams fared well this afternoon only being charged with two earned runs while striking out six along the way.

Roman Berretta, Jack Gilmer and Eddie Meredith all collected hits this afternoon rounding out game one for the Lions. Berretta and Meredith both tallied an RBI in the Lions two run fourth inning.

GAME 2: SUSP. ALB 1 WIL 0

Game two was forced into suspension due to inclement weather in the top of the fifth inning with zero outs. The two sides will attempt to finish todays game but a date for the final four innings has yet to be determined.

Before suspension of play, Chris Gorla notched his first career hit and extra base hit as Gorla roped a double to left center. Gorla would later come around to score on an Eddie Meredith ground out.

John O'Connor had everything working on the mound going four strong innings. O'Connor allowed only two hits while striking out two keeping the Wilkes bats at bay.

Zander Tesoriere, Roman Berretta and Eddie Meredith all had a single before play was suspended.
 
 
Up Next:
Albright will be right back at it tomorrow with a single nine innings game against Lycoming. The game is set for a 3:00 p.m. start time from Kelchner Field.
