MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Albright college softball team (2-2) battled tough on the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic against Kenyon and Maine-Farmington. The ball did not bounce the Lions way this afternoon suffering two narrow defeats by a combined two runs. Kenyon won in a back and forth high scoring affair 13-12 and Maine-Farmington won in their last at bat 6-5.
The Lions got off to a roaring start in 2024 winning both games of their season opening double header yesterday afternoon. Albright beat Fransiscan 9-1 in game one and turned around to beat Saint Joseph's of Long Island 13-3 in game two.
GAME 1: L, 13-12
Emma Breschard went 3-4 for the Lions in game one recording three singles. Breschard drove in three more runs today to give the Albright Lion five RBIs through two games played.
Marissa Rovenstine also recorded three hits this afternoon going 3-5 with three runs scored. Rovenstine added an RBI to her stat line marking the first RBI of Rovenstine's career.
Albright and Kenyon were locked up in a back and fourth game. The Owls jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning but the Lions would not go away quietly.
The Lions began to climb back in the game in the third and fourth innings scoring two runs across the two frames. Albright took the lead in the top of the sixth inning scoring five runs in the away half of the sixth. All five runs came with two outs in the sixth inning.
The Owls were able to match the Lions in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the game from Albright in the final innings.
Juliette Licata tallied two hits and two RBIs and a run scored. Licata has six total RBIs this season recording at least one RBI in every game to start the season.
As a team, Albright finished the game with 10 hits and 10 walks.
GAME 2: L 6-5
Maine-Farmington jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Lions in game two. But once again Albright was not going down without a fight. Albright battled back in the fifth and sixth innings scoring five runs to tie the game back up at 5-5.

Sadie Gonzalez in the sixth inning for the game tying run.
The Beavers kept the Lions at five runs and were ultimately able to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning 6-5.
Juliette Licata roped a triple for her first triple of the season. Licata tallied another RBI keeping the streak alive of recording at least one RBI in every game this season.
Slaydon Fisher went 1-1 with a single and two RBIs. At the time, Fishers RBIs got the Lions within one run of Maine-Farmington.
Albright had seven hits in game two by seven different players. Rounding out the hits was
Heather Pomante,
Kathryn Baptiste,
Madison Lasko and
Veronica Heckman. Baptiste's lone hit of the day went for a triple marking the second extra base hit of the season for Baptiste.

Albright will have off tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday, March 14. The Lions will play two early morning games against FDU-Florham at 9 a.m. and Scranton at 11 a.m.
