Women’s Tennis Continues to Roll Blanking Stevenson 9-0

The Albright women’s tennis team can not be stopped as the Lions picked up another MAC Commonwealth victory today by sweeping Stevenson 9-0.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – There is no stopping the Albright women's tennis team (7-1 '24 Spring, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) as the Lions picked up their fourth straight MAC Commonwealth win over Stevenson (4-4 '24 Spring, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) this afternoon winning 9-0.

Albright has won five matches in row dating back to March 25. The sweep is the second straight for the women outscoring their opponent 18-0 over that stretch. Additionally, the Lions have recorded six total matches this season without losing a single point in the match.

The Lions have ended multiple losing streaks to teams so far in MAC Commonwealth play and today was no different. Albright beat Stevenson today for the first time since 2016 and the first time the Lions have won 9-0 over Stevenson in program history. 

In singles matches, Albright did not drop a single set winning all six matches in two sets.

Alex Pancu who earned back-to-back Player of the Week honors just before today's match won easily today 6-0, 6-1.

Michelle Timothy was caught up in a close first set but prevailed taking the opening set 7-5. The second set was all Timothy as she dominated winning the set 6-1 to close out the match.

Elicia Aponte carried the theme of the day in #3 singles winning easily over her opponent. Aponte won 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets.

Valeria Sanchez was the lone Lion this afternoon to not allow the opponent to win a single game. Sanchez was in complete control from start to finish winning comfortably 6-0, 6-0.

Aliana Smith dominated in #5 singles navigating her way through the match to win 6-1, 6-2.

Alizabeth Zarnofsky closed out the singles matches in style by winning 6-0, 6-3.

Pancu & Timothy teamed up in number one doubles and handled business winning 8-2.

Aponte & Zarnofsky followed suit in number two doubles and won their match 8-3.

Sanchez and Smith won by the biggest margin of the day for the Lions in doubles play winning their match 8-1.

Up Next:
The Albright men's tennis team will return to the court on Saturday, April 20 hosting Hood College. The match will serve as the Lions Senior Day and the match will begin at 1:00 p.m. from the Albright Tennis Courts.
