READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team (5-17, 1-10 MAC Commonwealth) earned the double header split this afternoon at home against Stevenson (9-14, 4-7 MAC Commonwealth) picking up their first conference win of the season. Deklyn Mark's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Lions the walk off win over the Mustangs in game two.
The win in game two for Albright is the first win over Stevenson for Albright since the 2021 season. The Lions will look to win their first MAC Commonwealth series of the year in tomorrow's nine inning game against the Mustangs.
GAME 1: L, 5-2 (9 INN)
The first game of today's double header went to extra innings after the game was originally scheduled for seven innings.
Lucas Williams turned in a solid outing for the Lions in game one. Williams went eight strong innings fanning seven Stevenson batters. The eight innings pitched and seven strikeouts both mark career highs for the Albright ace.
Albright outhit Stevenson in game one recording 11 hits.
Jack Gilmer collected a three hit game marking the second three hit game of the year for the Albright shortstop.
Tommy Lewman,
Chris Gorla and
Zander Tesoriere all tallied two hits for Albright in game one. Gorla added a double and two RBIs plating two Lions in the third inning. Gorla is up to 13 RBIs on the season and now has six multi-hit games this year.
Stevenson tied the game up at 2-2 in the sixth inning and would later go on to win game one after scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to win 5-2.
Roman Berretta,
Deklyn Marks and
Christian Eckstein rounded out the hits in game one for the Lions each reaching base on a single.
Eckstein and Gilmer each had a stolen base in game one. Gorla was strong defensively throwing out two would be base stealers for Stevenson.
GAME 2: W, 5-4 (8 INN)
Both games of today's double header went to extra innings. The Lions turned the tables in game two picking up the extra inning win in the eighth inning.
Deklyn Marks played hero in game two recording a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning. Marks stepped to the plate just needing to put the ball in play with a runner on third and no outs. Marks made contact placing the ball deep enough into the outfield allowing
Christian Eckstein to score from third.
Eckstein led off the bottom of the eighth inning placing a beautiful bunt down the third base line for a single. Eckstein then used his speed to steal second and reached third on the same play after an error by the Mustang catcher.
Nick Barton kept the Lions in the game recording a single back up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up at 4-4. Barton was down to his last strike as Albright was down to their last out but Barton remained calm and collected in the box recording the game tying single.
Eddie Meredith scored the run for the Lions on Barton's single.
Colby Yaich came on in relief in game two and threw 2.1 innings allowing only one earned run. Yaich was effective in his outing keeping the Stevenson bats off balance throughout. Yaich made a fantastic defensive play snagging a comebacker keeping multiple Stevenson runs off the board.
Tommy Lewman went a perfect 4-4 in game two giving Lewman the first four hit game of the season and the second of his career. Lewman tallied three RBIs all coming on singles.
Barton was also perfect in game two going 3-3 at the plate including the game tying single. The three hit game is the third this year for Barton.
Jack Gilmer went 1-4 in game two with a double and run scored.
Albright pounded out 11 hits in game two finishing the double header with 22 total hits.
Zander Tesoriere,
Thomas Aulisi, Meredith, Eckstein and Gilmer all scored a run-in game two for Albright.
