OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Albright baseball team (6-17, 2-10 MAC Commonwealth) won 6-5 over Stevenson (9-15, 4-8 MAC Commonwealth) today scoring three runs in the ninth inning to capture their first MAC Commonwealth series win since 2019.
The win is the first series win in MAC Commonwealth play since 2019 when Albright beat Widener in a three-game set. After winning game two yesterday in extra innings, the Lions rose to the occasion again this afternoon scoring three runs in the ninth inning to win the game. The road win is the first for Albright since 2018 at Stevenson.
Christian Eckstein had a hit in all three games in the series and went 3-4 at the plate this afternoon. Eckstein's three hit game is the first multi and three hit game of his career. The first-year outfielder singled to right field to score
Nick Barton and
Trey Smith giving the Lions the 5-4 lead in the ninth. Overall, Eckstein went 5-9 in the series with two RBI's and a run scored.
Deklyn Marks reached on a single moving to third after Ecksteins hit in the ninth. Marks scored the eventual game winning run on a balk by the Stevenson pitcher. Marks delivered the walk-off winner in game two yesterday on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Dominic Yeager turned in his second quality start of the season marking the second time in three games Yeager has done so. Yeager was methodical through six innings of work allowing two runs and only one extra base hit. Yeager took the no decision after a strong outing.
Hayden Paukstits earned the win for the Lions picking up win number three on the year. The three wins leads the Albright pitching staff this season.
Patrick Ahearn earned the first save of his Albright career closing the door on the Mustangs. Ahearn got the final out on a fly ball to left field leaving two on base to end the game.
Albright sent eight batters to the plate in the ninth inning to complete the comeback scoring three total runs.
Chris Gorla led off with a single collecting one of the four hits in the frame for the Lions.
Gorla finished the game going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. In the series, Gorla had two multi hit games, three RBI's and threw out three would be base stealers for Stevenson. Gorla is hitting .288 on the year with 14 RBIs.
Zander Tesoriere and
Nick Barton rounded out the hits in game two while both Lions crossed the plate scoring a run for Albright.
