Field Hockey Beats Gwynedd Mercy 3-0 on the Road

The Albright field hockey team went on the road on Wednesday afternoon and picked up win number one on the young season beating the Griffins 3-0.

GWYNEDD MERCY, Pa. – Field Hockey picked up win number one on the young season beating Gwynedd Mercy (2-3) on the road this afternoon. The Lions (1-3) scored a season high three goals to pick up their first win of the season.

Albright opened up the 2024 schedule with their first three out of four games on the road. Today's three goal effort is the most the Lions have scored in any game this season.

Head Albright coach Catherine Wiese (Ostoich) squared off against her sister this afternoon who is the head coach of the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins.

Three different Lions found the back of the net this afternoon. Olivia Lorah, Lillian Tuffy and McKena Cox each tallied a goal for Albright.

Lorah got the scoring started just four minutes into the game. Lorah's second goal of the season came off an assist by Lillian Tuffy. The assist for Tuffy is the first of the season and the first point of the season for Tuffy.

The 1-0 score held until halftime in favor of Albright. Starting Lion goalkeeper Kelsey McTaggart made one save in the first half to keep the Griffins off the board.

The third period was kind to the Lions as the team scored twice to pull away from Gwynedd Mercy. After combining on a play in the first half, the Lion duo of Lorah and Tuffy reversed roles seeing Tuffy score the goal and Lorah assisting.

Cox tallied the third and final goal of the day for the Lions, just under two minutes after Tuffy's goal. Cox's goal was unassisted.

McTaggart ended her day with two saves earning the first shutout win of the first-years Lion career.

Albright dominated in shots and penalty corners having 15 total shots (nine on goal) and nine penalty corners.
