Volleyball Drops Five Set Thriller to Gwynedd Mercy

The Lions and Griffins were locked into a back and forth match throughout. The Griffins pulled away in the end to steal the game from the Lions.

READING, Pa. – Volleyball (4-9, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) and Gywnedd Mercy (4-7, 0-0 Atlantic East) went back and forth the entire evening trading kill after kill. In the end, the Griffins took the match in a five-set thriller in the Bollman Center.

Albright and Gwynedd Mercy split the first two sets of the match. After Albright won the third set Gwynedd Mercy responded by winning the fourth set to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

The Griffins prevailed in the fifth set to steal the match from the Lions and leave Reading with a victory.

Samantha Lipp led the way for the Lions on both ends of the floor leading the team in kills and finishing second on the team in digs. 15 kills were credited to Lipp marking a new career high in an Albright uniform. The 17 digs gives Lipp her third straight match with at least 12 digs.

Rachel Etim turned in a season high 14 kills on her way to season high in points with 16.5. Contributing to the match point total was Etim tallying 19 digs which is also good for a new career high for the senior Lion.

In a match that featured multiple career highs for the Lions, Valouria James went for 17 digs and 37 assists to set new career highs in both categories.

Korrine Tillery added seven kills to go along with two service aces and two block assists. Elon Ruley-Donadelle finished with six kills and three block assists.
 
Up Next:
Albright will be off until next Monday, October 6 when the team travels to St. Mary's College of Maryland. The match is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
