READING, Pa. - Men's wrestling officially returned at Albright with the program beginning the 2025-26 season at the Tonee Ellis Memorial Tournament on the campus of Alvernia. The program was announced to be returning to Albright in December of 2024. Albright took fifth overall out of 15 total teams.
The Tonee Ellis Memorial tournament featured 15 total teams. Two Division II institutions were in the field with Kutztown and Shippensburg. Alvernia, Eastern and Delaware Valley were also in action as the other MAC member institutions.
Albright took fifth overall this afternoon, having 155 points. The score was better than Eastern (80.5 points) and Delaware Valley (53.5).
Trent Mahoney led the way for the Lions to earn the tournament crown at 157 pounds. Mahoney rolled through his competition with three tech falls coming in the second period. In the championship match Mahoney won on a medical forfeit to make it one for one in individual competitions as an Albright Lion.
Abdoul Akala took second place at 184 pounds. Akala was dominant in his four matches leading up to the championship match having two tech falls and two decisions.
Danny Metzler took third overall at 141 pounds. Metzler earned a decision in his first bout of the day and major decisioned his opponent in his next bout. The first-year ended his day with an 11-3 major decision.
Davis Keppley took fourth overall after winning two of his four bouts. Keppley's two bout wins came in the form of two major decisions.
Gideon Fasanya went 2-2 across his four bouts to earn sixth place at 197 pounds. In his two wins Fasanya earned tech falls winning 17-1 and 11-0.
Jaiden Woodrum took eighth overall at 125 pounds. Woodrum won four bouts, winning three of them by tech falls and one by major decision.
Joseph Gassert placed fourth at heavyweight. Gassert's two wins consisted of a tech fall in the second period and a major decision.
Romello Fuentes also finished eighth at 197 pounds after winning two bouts. The wins came in the form of two decisions, winning 8-3 and 9-5.
Seth Karplunk took sixth at 149 pounds by way of winning four total bouts. Karplunk won two bouts by tech falls and two bouts by decisions.

Albright will return to action next weekend on Saturday, November 8 at the TJNC Duals. The Duals will begin in the morning and continue through the afternoon and evening hours.
