Mahoney Concludes Nationals as an All-American; Places in Eighth

Trent Mahoney wrapped his time at the 2026 men’s wrestling Championships on Saturday afternoon. Mahoney placed in eighth overall to earn All-American status.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia.Trent Mahoney competed on day two of the 2026 NCAA Men's Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mahoney finished in eighth place. The eighth place finish gives Mahoney All-American honors.

Coming into competition today, Mahoney all ready locked up All-American status by way of his 2-1 record on the first day of competition. With the honor, Mahoney becomes the first wrestler in program history to earn All-American status.

Mahoney was seeded #2 in the 157-pound bracket. Mahoney opened his tournament facing Ursinus's Braden Kmak who was seeded #15. Mahoney earned a 3-0 victory over Kmak. The following bout saw Mahoney fall to #7 Ryan Smith of Stevens.

Mahoney beat Gavin Pascoe of Gettysburg by major decision 17-6 in his next match to officially obtain All-American status.

Today, Mahoney opened squaring off against the third seed in the 157-pound bracket in Charlie Dojan from Wartburg. Dojan was able to get the better of Mahoney earning a hard-fought 3-1 decision. The final bout of the championships saw Mahoney fall to Joe Penchi of UW-La Crosse in a high scoring affair 15-12.

Coming into the championships Mahoney owned a record of 36-1 with his only loss being to a Division II opponent.

In the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships, Mahoney ran through the competition to claim the MAC's 157-pound title. In Regionals, Mahoney again bested the field to claim the top spot in the region at 157 pounds.
