Men’s Wrestling Finishes TCNJ Duals at 2-1

The Lions picked up their first dual wins since the reinstatement of the program at the TCNJ duals. Albright beat Delaware Valley 41-16 and Arcadia 31-18.

EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Men's wrestling (2-1) won two of their three duals on Saturday afternoon beating Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) member institutions Delaware Valley and Arcadia. The dual wins mark the first for the program since wrestling returned at Albright.

Prior to the program's reinstatement Albright's last competition season was in 2006. The dual wins are the first since November of 2005 when Albright beat University of Baltimore County. The men's wrestling program is in their fifty season overall. Additionally, the wins mark the first for Kerry Regner at Albright.

DUAL RESULTS

Dual #1 | #2 TCNJ 41 ALBRIGHT 12

TCNJ came into the match ranked number two in the country. The Lions of TCNJ took eight of 10 bouts to power them to victory.

Trent Mahoney who is nationally ranked at 157 pounds, kept his perfect start to the season intact. Mahoney pinned his opponent in the second period at 4:56 giving the Lions their first six points on the day.

Beknazar Baiyshbekov picked up a win at 165 pounds making quick work of his opponent. Baiyshbekov notched a pin at 2:22 in the first period giving Albright back-to-back pins.
 
Dual #2 ALBRIGHT 41 DELAWARE VALLEY 16

The Lions downed Delaware Valley to win their first dual meet of the season. Albright won at 197 pounds and won by forfeit in six of the 10 total bouts.

Gideon Fasanya brought home the win at 197 pounds by way of a tech fall. The win was the first of two on the day for Fasanya.

Earning a win by forfeit for Albright was Hezekiah Molina-Hagdu (125), Danny Metzler (141), Seth Karpulk (149), Trent Mahoney (157), Davis Keppley (174) and Abdoul Akala (184).
 
DUAL #3 ALBRIGHT 39 ARCADIA 18

Albright fell into a hole to start the match, trailing Arcadia 18-5 after four bouts. Danny Metzler earned the win at 141 by way of tech fall to put the Lions on the board.

The remaining six bouts were won by Albright. The stretch featured four straight pins to put the Lions up 29-18 with two bouts remaining.

197 and HWT bouts both went to Albright closing out the match with back-to-back tech falls.

Mahoney started the run of four straight pins for Albright at 157. Baiyshbekov followed with a pin of his own at 165 picking up his second win of the afternoon.

Davis Keppley rattled off the third straight pin at 174 while Abdoul Akala made it four straight pins at 184.

Fasanya wrapped up a 2-0 day winning by tech fall at 197. Joseph Gassert  concluded his day going 1-1 by earning a tech fall in the HWT bout.
 
Up Next:
Albright will head to Wilkes to compete in the Wilkes invite. The Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 on the campus of Wilkes University.
