Men’s Wrestling Tops Keystone and NJCU at King’s College Duals

Men’s Wrestling won their fourth and fifth duals of the season on Saturday afternoon at the King’s College Duals. Albright has won each of their last five duals.

WILKES-BAREE-, Pa. – Men's Wrestling (5-1) ran their dual win streak to five on Saturday afternoon with wins over Keystone College and New Jersey City University (NJCU). The duals took place on the campus of King's College.

Albright has won each of their last five duals. During the five duals Albright outscored their opponents 197-74.

Today's dual wins came in different varieties. Beginning the day against Keystone, Albright controlled the dual from start to finish winning 54-4 and would later earn a come from behind win against NJCU 28-23.

Albright won nine of 10 bouts against Keystone. Of the nine bout wins five of them came by way of Albright pins.

Jaiden Woodrum (133), Yusuf Kulmatov (149), Trent Mahoney (157), Beknazar Baiyshbekov (165) and Abdoul Akala (184) all earned victories by pins to lead the Lions. Additionally, each pin came in the first period with Kulmatov having the fastest win of the day coming in :28.

Hezekiah Molina-Hagdu (125), Danny Metzler (141), Davis Keppley (174) and Joseph Gassert (HWT) all earned team points for Albright winning their individual matches by forfeit.

The Lions recorded their fifth straight dual win by coming back against NJCU. The Lions found themselves down 20-0 across the first four bouts.

The next five of six bouts would all go to the Lions to complete the comeback winning 28-23.

Mahoney moved up in the national rankings this week jumping two spots to #5 in the country at 157. Mahoney finished his day at 2-0 winning by pin in the first period to continue his undefeated start to the season.

Baiyshbekov made it two in a row for Albright winning in a high scoring affair. Baiyshbekov won by major decision in the end 20-11 ending his day at 2-0.

Keppley and Akala earned back-to-back pins to put the Lions within striking distance at 22-23 heading into the final bout of the dual. Both pins came in the first period for Keppley and Akala.

Gassert needed a decision to win the dual for the Lions. Gassert did just that and more, winning by fall in the second period to walk it off against NJCU.

Up Next:
Albright will return home for their second home dual of the season against Delaware Valley. The dual is set for a 6:00 p.m. start on Friday, December 19.
