CHESTER, Pa. – The 2024-25 MAC Commonwealth playoffs officially run through Albright after the Lions clinched the number one seed in the Commonwealth playoffs with the teams 68-64 win over Widener (7-18, 5-9 MAC Commonwealth) on Saturday afternoon. Albright has won their last nine games in row including a season sweep over Widener for the first time since the 2017-2018 season.
Albright is the number one seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth playoffs finishing the season with a 12-2 mark in the Commonwealth. The 12 conference wins are the most since the 2017-18 team won 12 conference games.
The Lions secured the one seed by winning the tie breaker over York College, who also finished with a 12-2 mark in the conference. Albright is the number one seed in the conference tournament for the first time since the 2017-18 NCAA tournament qualifying team.
Albright trailed late in the first half of today's game but closed the half on a 9-0 run cutting their deficit to just two after the opening 20 minutes.
The second half was closely contested throughout as neither team was able to separate themselves. In the end, like much of the season for Albright, the team found a way to win resulting in their ninth straight win.
Albright saw four Lions end in double figures led by
Eric Chamberlain with 17. The guard added four assists and three steals in the win.
Phanique Dupree nearly had another double-double ending with 14 points and nine rebounds. Despite recording zero blocks this afternoon, Dupree is in line to not only lead the MAC Commonwealth in total blocks and blocks per game but also lead the entire country in the same categories during the regular season.
Jeremiah Stanton chipped in with 11 points in 33 minutes of game action.
Chris Kouemi shot 50% from the floor to record 10 points while hauling in eight rebounds.
Qadir Mitchell did most of his damage from the free throw line hitting clutch free throw after clutch free throw down the stretch to end with nine points.
The Lions were strong on the offensive glass recording 10 offensive rebounds to just three from Widener.
