READING, Pa. – Men's basketball saw their season come to an end on Wednesday night in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth semifinals falling short to Alvernia. The Golden Wolves took tonight's contest 89-81 and advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship against York on Saturday.
The Lions end their season at 17-8 after earning the number one seed in the MAC Commonwealth Playoffs. The Lions were counted out before the season even started being picked to finish sixth in the coaches' preseason poll.
Albright used that as motivation all year long, earning their best mark in conference play at 12-2 in the past seven years to win the Commonwealth regular season championship. The team entered the playoffs on a nine-game winning streak, Albright's best streak in the last 50 years.
Alvernia led by 12 at halftime, seemingly making every shot they took from the floor. Albright did their best to climb back into the game in the second half, but the effort came up short.
Eric Chamberlain ends his Albright career as one of the best guards and players in school history. During his time at Albright, Chamberlain set numerous program records in total career steals, steals in a single season, steals per game in a single season and was named the first Defensive Player of the Year for the conference in school history.
The dynamic guard finished with 30 points tonight to end his career with 1,299 points. The point total places Chamberlain in a tie for 22nd all time in school history with Albright Hall of Famer John Scholl. Chamberlain rounded out his night adding four steals and grabbing six rebounds.
Jeremiah Stanton was 6-13 from the floor and 5-5 from the free throw line giving him 19 points on the night. Stanton is the team's floor general displaying high basketball IQ all season long and tonight. Stanton dished out three assists playing 38 minutes out of a possible 40.
Qadir Mitchell was the best sixth man in the conference this season. Mitchell came off the bench tonight and scored 19 points in 34 minutes of play. Mitchell shot 50% from the floor and also grabbed a career high eight rebounds.
Chris Kouemi scored eight points and recorded six rebounds on the night. Kouemi has been a solid player since arriving on campus four years ago. Kouemi finished his Albright career with an impressive 753 career points and 625 career rebounds.
