Men’s Wrestling Concludes Day Undefeated across Three Duals

The Lions faced three different opponents throughout the day on Saturday afternoon and beat all three to end the day a perfect 3-0.

READING, Pa. – Men's wrestling competed three times today facing Southern Virgina and Garrett at Alvernia before returning home to face Marymount. The Lions were no match for the competition as Albright beat all three opponents to improve their dual record to 11-5.

The first dual of the day went to the Lions. Albright built up a 27-4 lead by the midway point of the dual.

Maximus Conley and Danny Metzler got Albright on the board. Conley earned a major decision (14-3) and Metzler picked up a tech fall (15-0).

Seth Karpulk, Trent Mahoney and Beknazar Baiyshbekov ripped off three straight falls to give the Lions a sizable advantage. Karpulk's fall came in the second period while Mahoney and Baiyshbekov got the job done in the first period.

Abdoul Akala kept his winning ways going winning 13-1. Joesph Gassert ended the dual in style with a fall in the final 30 seconds of his bout.

Albright carried their momentum into the second dual of the day dominating Garrett.

Conley opened with a hard-fought 4-3 decision win. Metzler picked up his first fall of the day just before the end of the first period.

Karpulk followed with a tech fall of his own (16-1) while Mahoney was next up and did what he does best earning a fall in the first period. Baiyshbekov matched Mahoney with his second fall of the day coming in the first period.

The dual was never in question as Albright was in control from start to finish.

Akala notched a first period tech fall (15-0) while Gideon Fasanya followed with an 11-7 victory. Gassert tallied his second win of the day after the Garrett opponent was forced to leave the bout with an injury.

The Lions were locked into a close dual with the Saints for the first four bouts. After four bouts Marymount held a 9-7 advantage.

Conley and Metzler combined to give the Lions their first seven points of the evening. Conley went 3-0 today, wrapping up with a 12-7 decision over the Marymount opposition. Metzler went 2-1 on the day concluding with a 15-3 major decision.

Mahoney who entered today ranked #5 in the country at 157 picked up his third and final fall of the day in the first period. Baiyshbekov followed suit with a fall in the second period. After Baiyshbekov at 165, Albright led 19-9.

Akala, who is ranked #9 in the country at 184, closed out the match for Albright with a fall in the early goings of the second period. Akala's pin put the match out of reach giving the Lions their third straight dual win of the day.
 
Up Next:
Men's wrestling will return to the Bollman Center on Saturday, February 7 hosting York College. The dual is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will serve as the teams' senior day.
