READING, Pa. – Men's wrestling (7-1) returned to the mats for the first time in the 2026 calendar year hosting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Eastern (0-3). Albright won tonight's dual by a final score of 35-17 resulting in the teams seventh straight dual win.
Tonight's dual featured two teams that are new to the MAC in terms of wrestling. Albright is in the middle of their first wrestling season since 2006 while Eastern is in the middle of their inaugural wrestling season. Eastern announced they would be adding men's and women's wrestling to their NCAA sponsored athletic offerings in December of 2024.
There are no official team standings in the MAC, however Albright has fared well against MAC member institutions all season long. Albright has wrestled Delaware Valley twice, Arcadia and Eastern. Albright won all four bouts outscoring their opponents 156-59.
Tonight's match started with a pin from Eastern to give the Eagles a quick 5-0 lead.
Maximus Conley would get the Lions on the board at 133 pounds earning an 8-5 decision. 141 and 165 bouts would both go to Eastern while the 149 and 157 bouts would go to Albright.
Danny Metzler and
Calvin Myers both won via pin at 149 and 157, respectively.
With four bouts remaining Eastern was clinging to a 17-14 lead.
Albright started to gain momentum and did not lose a single bout from 174 and on.
Davis Keppley got things rolling with a major decision and was followed by
Abdoul Akala at 184 who made quick work of his opponent pinning him in 44 seconds.
Gideon Fasanya and
Joseph Gassert sealed the victory for the Lions. Fasanya picked up a tech fall in the first period to ice the match while Gassert was able to increase the margin of victory winning by pin in the second period.

While participating the Lions will face off against United States Coast Guard Academy, Shippensburg, Roger Williams and Southern Maine. The first dual of the day will take place against the Coast Guard Academy at 10:00 a.m. The next dual will start roughly an hour and 15 minutes from when the last dual began.
