Football Spoils Widener’s Homecoming in Chester

The Lions earned their second conference win of the season in convincing fashion against the Pride.

READING, Pa. – Football (3-2, 2-2 MAC) traveled for a road match against Widener (2-3, 2-2 MAC). The Lions dominated both ends of the ball resulting in over 37 minutes of possession leading to a comfortable 26-7 victory. This marks the second time in as many years the Lions have beaten Widener while holding the Pride to under 10 points.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Lions broke through for the first score via a Kadan Smith rushing touchdown from a yard out with just over 13 minutes in the opening half. Smith finished the day with 91 yards from scrimmage and a pair of scores on the day.

Widener's offense was stifled throughout the entire game as Albright's defense forced five turnovers. Amon McLaughlin played lights out in coverage and intercepted two passes. James Evans and Darien Osmun also recorded interceptions of their own while Daunte Morrison jumped on a loose ball to set up the Lions on their own side of midfield.

The Lions would find the endzone again on their second drive of the third quarter which culminated in Chase Roberts connecting with Alden Stickler for a 25-yard touchdown. Roberts completed 25 of 32 passes for 315 yards while Sticker turned in his best performance of the season with 63 yards and his first touchdown of the season.

Logan Rothberg had more receiving yards than all Widener receivers combined with a career best 137 on nine receptions which was also a career high for the senior.

An eight-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter would be the Pride's lone score of the afternoon as Widener was held to 169 yards of offense compared to 469 put up by the Lions.

Isaiah Megginson continues to make the most of each rep and rushed for 69 yards on just nine carries in a day where the Lions averaged just under five (4.8) yards per carry.
