Football Narrowly Falls to Alvernia at Home

The Lions played at home following a bye and road victory against Widener.

READING, Pa. – Football (3-3, 2-3 MAC) returned to Shirk Stadium to host Alvernia (3-3, 3-2 MAC) for their third home game of the season. Through four quarters of back-and-forth play, the Golden Wolves would wind up sneaking out with a 20-14 victory over the Lions.

The Lions started the scoring on the game's first drive with Chase Roberts pushing the ball across the goal line on a QB sneak. Roberts completed 10 of 16 passes for 105 yards before having to leave due to injury. Desai Drummond completed 11 of 15 passes in relief for 173 yards and ran for a four-yard score in the final seconds of the first half to put the Lions up 14-0.

As a team, the Lions' defense lived in the backfield all day with four sacks and seven tackles for a loss. Vaughn Brooks recorded six tackles, 1.5 for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. Jaylan Atkinson and Daunte Morrison once again turned in great performances and each added another nine tackles and a sack on their seasons.

Kadan Smith finished with 99 total yards on 20 touches making a number of impact plays including hurdling a defender on a third down to move the chains.

Leading all Lions in yards from scrimmage was Shayde Shultz who caught eight passes for 138 yards in addition to 46 return yards.

Following a late Alvernia score, the Lions would get the ball one last time with just under two minutes remaining down by six needed a touchdown to win it. After a couple of first down conversions, Alvernia's defense would come through late on their own side of the field for their third conference win of the season.
