Football’s Gutsy Decision Leads to Thrilling Victory on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day

The Albright Football class of 2026’s final game at Shirk Stadium was one for the ages.

READING, Pa. – After a tough loss in the pretzel bowl, Albright Football (4-5, 3-5 MAC) took to their home field for the final time this season against the King's College Monarchs (3-5, 3-5 MAC) in front of a packed crowd. Four quarters of play would result in one of the most exciting Lions' victories in recent memory.

In addition to honoring seniors Alden Stickler, Matthew Creeger, Darien Osmun, Logan Rothberg, Chase Roberts, Michael Rosebar, Antonio Vasquez, Daniel Farley, Perry Foreman III, Robert Sisk, Lacy Hedgepeth, and Erik Thelander, The Lions used today's game to recognize our veterans and active military members for their service.

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Monarchs struck first with an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown. The pick-six would be the only score in the first half resulting King's entering the locker rooms with a 7-0 lead.

The Lions would punch back on the first possession of the second half with a 15-play drive that lasted over eight minutes. Aaron Foote scored on a handoff from three yards out to tie the game up at 7-7. The First-Year stepped with Albright dealing with an injured running back room with 44 yards on 10 carries.

Pressure was felt constantly by the Monarch's offense as the Lions defense lived in the backfield with three sacks and seven tackles for a loss as a team. Darien Osmun had a senior day to remember with a sack and 3.5 additional tackles for a loss. Joining Osmun with sacks of their own were Daunte Morrison and Vaugh Brooks.

After another touchdown drive by King's, the Lions once again responded in the form of a DeAndre Clemons rushing touchdown from eight yards out. Clemons led all Lions with 107 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches.

With just over two minutes remaining, the Lions found themselves in a do or die situation trailing by seven (21-14) and needing a touchdown. A nine play, 63-yard drive which included an outstanding sideline catch from Alden Stickler on third down culminated in Chase Roberts calling his own number with a seven-yard rushing score with eight seconds remaining.

Only trailing by one after the touchdown, (21-20) Shaun Weaver and Danny Collins made a bold call and elected to go for two and the win. After Roberts faked a handoff to Clemons, he found fellow senior Erik Thelander alone in the back right of the endzone for the successful two-point conversion and the lead, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

The game's final play would result in James Evans recording his third interception of the season as time expired with his teammates swarming the field in celebration. The victory by the Lions ended a seven-game losing streak to the Monarchs.
