CHESTER, Pa. – Men's basketball (13-9, 9-2 Commonwealth) won their ninth game in a row beating Widener (7-15, 4-7 MAC Commonwealth) 90-84 on Wednesday evening. The nine wins a row ties the 24-25 Lions for the most consecutive wins in program history.
With three games to play Albright is the current #2 seed in the Commonwealth. Regardless of how the rest of the conference shakes out tonight, Albright can clinch a playoff berth with a win over #15 Hood on Saturday.
Albright has won nine games in a row in consecutive seasons marking the first time the feat has been accomplished in program history. Each win has come against MAC Commonwealth opponents.
The margin was one at halftime in favor of the Lions 41-40. Widener kept it close in the second half, but the Lions were too much to overcome for the Pride in the end. Four Lions would end the game in double figures.
Jeremiah Stanton recorded nine assists tonight to move into fifth place in program history in career assists. Stanton tallied back-to-back eight or more assist games and is up to 322 career assists. The senior added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals to his overall stat line tonight.
Phanique Dupree scored 22 points going 9-11 from the floor. The shooting percentage of 81.8 ranks tied for eighth all-time in a single game in the Lions history. With four blocks tonight Dupree is closing in on 200 career blocks, a feat no Lion has done since the program's inception. Dupree is sitting on 196 career blocks with three regular season games to go.
Qadir Mitchell tied a season-high in three's made with four to bring his point total to 23 on the night. Mitchell is within striking distance of becoming the program's 42
nd player all time to reach 1000 career points. The senior guard has 947 career points after tonight's game.
Chase McWhite was the fourth Lion to end the night in double figures with 11 points. McWhite nearly had a double-double ending with nine rebounds.
Joey Callahan went 3-6 from beyond the arc, chipping in with nine points.
As a team Albright shot 52.5% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. The 90 total points are the second most scored in a win for the Lions this season. Albright held a huge advantage in points off turnovers outscoring the Pride 23-8 in that category.
